What Does Lean On Me International Do?

People often ask what Lean On Me International does. The simple answer is that we are a U.S. registered 501(c)(3) Crisis Intervention Organization dedicated to helping Isleños facing unexpected hardships they simply cannot overcome on their own.

Every phone call, message, or referral represents someone experiencing a crisis. While no two situations are ever the same, our volunteers work tirelessly behind the scenes to respond as quickly as possible, helping families navigate medical emergencies, food insecurity, and other urgent needs.

From January through June 2026 / 26 weeks, LOMI has provided:

  • 121 medications
  • 70 laboratory tests
  • 27 Medical consultations
  • 24 Ancillary medical tests
  • 2 Surgeries
  • 7 Medical referrals from Dr. Greta / Dr. Salas
  • 3 Medical referrals from the Isla Diabetic Clinic
  • 26 ADO bus tickets for medical travel
  • 2 Flights for specialized medical care
  • 2 Dental visits
  • 101 Food dispensaries for families in need – approximately 500 people
  • 32 Tourist food dispensaries for families – approximately 160 people
  • 1 Eyeglass lens replacement
  • 5 Medical supply requests
  • 1 Earthquake disaster relief response
  • Numerous clothing distributions

In addition to these services, we continue to maintain 10 Free LOMI Libraries, coordinate our children’s vision grant that provides vision screenings and glasses, and respond to countless unexpected requests that never make it into a statistic but make a tremendous difference in someone’s life.

None of this would be possible without the incredible generosity of our donors, the dedication of our volunteers, our medical partners, and the many community members who trust us to walk beside families during some of their most difficult moments. Thank you for believing in our mission and making hope possible, one act of kindness at a time.

Lean On Me International is a U.S. registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization supporting the people of Isla Mujeres, Mexico through community programs including food dispensaries, education initiatives, medical support, and emergency assistance for families in need.
